The Heritage Property Act (1980) is the primary statue for protecting, conserving and developing heritage property in Saskatchewan. The legislation is comprehensive empowering both the province and municipal governments with the authority to protect and regulate heritage property. As part of a broader initiative to streamline government, The Heritage Property Act was amended in May 2010 to provide for the on-going operation of the Saskatchewan Heritage Foundation as well as the Saskatchewan Geographic Names Program.
