Echo Valley Educational Programs

Echo Valley offers five educational programs.  To book a program, or to discuss customizing a specific program to your needs, please call (306)332-3220.

Seine Netting

Our most popular program!  We bring the students out on the beach and bring out a large net that is carried on one hand and one foot.  Two students (wearing their beautiful hip waders) go out in the water and make a large, extended u-turn.  When they return to shore, students use dip nets to collect fish, minnows and lake critters then identify them and discuss the importance of each in the ecosystem.

Interpretive Nature Hike

The hike follows the Nature Trail, which is approximately 3 km.  We talk about Valley formation, plants and various animals found in the area.  We can do more specific themes such as Edible and Medicinal Plants or History of the Qu’Appelle valley upon request.

Orienteering

This program allows students to work first hand with a compass and follow directions on a course throughout the Park.

Interpretive Cente

Students are given time to explore the Visitor Center, then do different activities based on the themes introduced in the Center.

Canoeing

We have certified instructors (Flatwater A/B/C/D and Lakewater 1).  We can only accommodate a limited number of students at one time.  Lifejackets rent out at a $1.00 each.

Visitor Center

Make the journey to the Visitor Center to check out the great displays on the valley formation, wildlife in the area, history of the Qu’Appelle and to meet Edgar, our handsome crayfish, and Petra, our Giant Water Beetle.  Ask at any entry gate for a map and directions to the Visitor Center.
