Fort Carlton Provincial Park Educational Programs at Fort CarltonSchool tours, available for students in K-12, are offered weekdays, starting the Tuesday following the May long weekend, at Programs A and B (below) can handle groups larger than 60; however, program adjustments may be required. ![]() Program A: Hands on HistoryThe emphasis is on using hands-on activities to introduce students to fur trade history. Students visit the Tipi encampment and the stockade buildings. Activities include examining trade goods and First Nations artifacts, grading furs and playing the spoons. The Visitor Centre is not part of the tour. Program length: 1 hour and 45 minutes Program B: Introducing Fort CarltonStudents are introduced to the fur and provisions trade of the 1860s. A fast-paced tour of all the park buildings with limited hands-on activities, this program is recommended for grades 9-12. Program length: 1 hour and 45 minutes ![]() Program C: Fine Grade 45The Hudson's Bay Company packed their finest grade of pemmican into 45 pound bags. This program combines all the best that Fort Carlton offers. A hike on the Crossing Place trail where you can view remnants of the famous Carlton Trail, hands-on activities at the tipi encampment and in the stockade, fur grading and baling and the Visitor Centre are all part of this program. Program length: 3 hours and 30 minutes (offered only at 2:00 p.m.) Guided ToursGroup tours are available; please contact the park in advance. Staff will guide visitors through the fort and buildings. They are also available for guided walks on the trails. Historic information focuses on the Hudson's Bay Company, the fur trade in the 1800s and the key role First Nations played in the fur trade.
