The tourism, sport, cultural and recreational infrastructure challenge in Saskatchewan cannot be tackled solely by the provincial government.  It will take support and cooperation from the municipal, provincial and federal governments to address this issue in the long term.

TPCS has completed the final year of the $100 million Building Communities Program.  This is a good start to addressing the infrastructure challenges we face in the province; however, a number of projects could not qualify for funding as a result of the $1 million threshold.

In January 2009, the ministry completed its consultation with key stakeholder groups to examine how best to address future tourism, sport, cultural and recreational needs throughout the province.  Through that process, a number of themes and perspectives were gathered.

TPCS will use this valued input in its work with other agencies, including the federal government, to continue efforts to address the tourism, sport, culture and recreation sector infrastructure needs in Saskatchewan.  As further developments arise, appropriate news releases will be issued.
