Heritage Heritage Poster Contest for Saskatchewan Students2008 Call for Entries!Every community in Saskatchewan has places that are valued for their heritage significance. Some of these places are formally recognized at the municipal, provincial or national level for their association with the history of the province, while others are respected as landmarks in their communities. All these places teach us about the people and events that make up our history. The Heritage Poster Contest is an opportunity for students to learn more about these historic places through research and artistic expression. Students in all grades are targeted for this contest because of the focus on Saskatchewan and Canadian history in the History, Native Studies and Social Studies curricula. About the Contest This is a province-wide competition for students in all grades. The objective is for youth to create posters depicting a place of heritage significance in Saskatchewan. It is a great way to engage youth with heritage places in the province, to bring discussion of heritage properties into the classroom, and to build awareness and appreciation for heritage properties across Saskatchewan. New Theme Award for 2008! This year a prize will also be awarded to the entry that best represents the theme of ADAPTIVE REUSE. "Adaptive Re-use" means finding a new use for a historic place that is compatible with its historic character and features, such as using a train station as a community hall or a warehouse for apartments. Re-using historic places is a good way to protect the place. It also has many economic, social, and environmental benefits for the community.
