Every community in Saskatchewan has places that are valued for their heritage significance. Some of these places are formally recognized at the municipal, provincial or national level for their association with the history of the province, while others are respected as landmarks in their communities. All these places teach us about the people and events that make up our history. The Heritage Poster Contest is an opportunity for students to learn more about these historic places through research and artistic expression. Students in all grades are targeted for this contest because of the focus on Saskatchewan and Canadian history in the History, Native Studies and Social Studies curricula.

Francais:

Theme Award
A prize will also be awarded to the entry that best represents the theme of the HERITAGE OF SPORTS AND RECREATION IN SASKATCHEWAN. The 2010 Winter Olympic Games offer an opportunity to celebrate the important role that sport and recreation facilities have played in the development of our province, our communities, and our citizens. Across Saskatchewan, participation in sport and recreation improves individual health and well-being, while fostering community pride and economic development. The gyms, fields, trails, stadiums, rinks, stampede grounds and other places associated with sport and recreation are important gathering places for the community and reflect the history of personal and team achievements that often define a community's spirit and character.
For a poster to be considered for the THE HERITAGE OF SPORTS AND RECREATION theme award, it must depict a historic place that is associated with sport and recreation activity in the student's community or elsewhere in the province. The statement of significance should indicate how the place is, or was, associated with sport and recreation activity, why it is considered historically significant and, where possible, how it has contributed to the growth and development of the community. All entries for the theme award will be considered in their respective grade category.
For more information and eligibility, see the Call for Entries: English or Francais.
