The lottery system helps dedicated volunteers deliver valuable sport, culture and recreation programs in their communities. Lottery funding in Saskatchewan aids over 12,000 voluntary organizations in delivering programs across the province. The Minister of Tourism, Parks, Culture and Sport has responsibility for lotteries, one of five gaming activities in Saskatchewan. The Saskatchewan Lottery Trust Fund for Sport, Culture and RecreationThe Interprovincial Lotteries Act, 1984, provides the authority for the Saskatchewan Lotteries Trust Fund for Sport, Culture and Recreation to exist in Saskatchewan. The net lottery profits are transferred to the Saskatchewan Lotteries Trust Fund for Sport, Culture and Recreation. As per the agreement between the provincial government and the three Globals (Sask Sport Inc., SaskCulture and the Saskatchewan Parks and Recreation Association), proceeds from the Trust Fund are disbursed through almost 1,200 sport, culture, recreation and community groups (urban, rural and northern municipalities, First Nations and several voluntary organizations) approved by the Minister, who in turn distribute the funds to more than 12,000 volunteer non-profit groups.
