Parks, culture, heritage and sport are sources of pride and an important part of our robust tourism sector.  This mix creates a unique ‘sense of place' which has contributed to Saskatchewan's distinctive character.  An active, vibrant tourism industry not only makes people want to visit Saskatchewan, it also promotes our quality of life to people who may want to live in Saskatchewan.

The tourism sector also plays a vital role in the province's economy and labour market.  In 2008-09, the tourism industry contributed more than $1.5 billion of economic activity in Saskatchewan.  Of this amount, one-third came from sources outside of the province, making tourism the fourth largest export industry.  The industry employs more than 53,000 people, hosts more than 4,300 events and stimulates entrepreneurial activities.

Tourism activity in Saskatchewan is supported by industry organizations the private sector and government to enhance our attractions, build the sector's business capacity and promote Saskatchewan to our target markets.

Saskatchewan Tourism System Review

On September 8, 2009, the Government of Saskatchewan announced that Western Management Consultants, in partnership with Jill Vandal from the Tourism Company, was contracted to conduct a review of the tourism system in Saskatchewan.

An advisory committee, composed of government, Tourism Saskatchewan and industry stakeholders, was established to develop the terms of reference for the review.  The review will analyze the current state of tourism in Saskatchewan and identify significant trends, key players and threats.

Over the course of the fall 2009 and winter 2010, the consultants gathered industry input through a series of consultations.  Click here to see the results.

The final report of the review is expected in April 2010.
